Darling Downs Zoo is a planned collection of animal life in appropriate
social groupings and simulated habitats. It is privately owned by Steve
and Stephanie Robinson. This zoo is located on rural settings of
Queensland Darling Downs, midway between Toowoomba and Warwick just two
hours drive from the Brisbane Central Business District.
The zoo is formatted into 4 geographical naturalistically themed
habitats and features animals from Africa, South America, South-east
Asia and Australia displaying birds, animals and reptiles of each
region. The zoo is home for the only pride of African Lions in
south-east Queensland, tropical birds, baboons, marmosets, monkeys,
kangaroos, deer, camel, white wallabies, boa constrictors, crocodiles
and alligator as well as the world's most venomous snakes, pythons,
ducks, lizards, swans, pelican, dingo, emu, water birds, turtles and
tortoises. The zoo is also home to a pair of young white lions from
South Africa.
Apart from raising the animals, the zoo looks out for the birth of new
young ones which fosters growth of the species and zoo expansion. The
zoo has green lawns for picnics and a gift shop. The park has free
parking facilities and the whole zoo is wheel chair friendly. The park
also does group bookings in advance.
