Zoodoo Wildlife Park is situated some 6 km from Richmond and covers a
total area of 90 acres of farmland. This was originally an Ostrich Farm
and a Miniature Pony Stud but was later opened to the public in 1999. It
first started with very few animals, but now, it is one of the biggest
wildlife parks in Tasmania.
At present, Zoodoo Wildlife Park offers a wide range of local,
agricultural and foreign animals and in fact, it offers something for
everyone. You can get closer to the animals you love and the park has
recently added Bengal Tigers in 2008 and in 2009 some African Lions.
Animals at the zoo
Zoodoo offers you to view a great range of animals including wombats,
birds, koala as well as Tasmanian devil. During the day time, you can
get close to animals like guinea pigs, cockatoos, pigs, alpacas and
rabbits. You can easily see many Australian animals like Tamar Wallaby,
Tasmanian Sugar Glider, Bennetts Wallaby, Budgerigar, Squirrel Glider,
Eastern Quoll and others. Among the birds, there is the Cockatiel,
Red-Tailed Black Cockatoo, Emu, Magpie Goose, Black Swan and others.
Zoodoo also offers the biggest collection of foreign animals like Indian
Palm Squirrel, Bengal Tiger, Ferret, African Lion, Miniature Ponies,
Ostrich and many more. Besides, there are three species of monkeys at
the zoo - the Crab-Eating Macaque, Common Marmoset and Black-Capped
Capuchin.
During the day time, you can take part in education talks and lion
feeding sessions. There is the Safari Bus that takes you on a tour of
the entire property and offers you feeding session where you can feed
the animals all by yourself.
Facilities at the zoo
Among the other facilities at the zoo, there are picnic facilities, gas
barbecues, kiosk offering hot and cold food and beverages as well as
undercover seating areas.
